Overview

Midnight Commander interprets ESC key as META, but the Escape key is a bit inconveniently located to press it all the time in key combinations. A very easy but extremely handy tip is to remap the left Option key as Esc+.

In iTerm2, go to Preferences → Profiles → Default → Keys and update the Left Option key:
